Our purpose
A permanent source of giving, built from a share of one firm's income
The Altor Foundation exists to turn a portion of Altor Wealth Management's profits into grants to UK charities today, and into an endowment that will keep making them long after the firm's partners have retired.
Mission
What we are here to do
We divert a share of Altor Wealth's profits to charities with a large net impact, and we keep our own costs low so that almost all of it reaches them. We concentrate on five themes: cleaning up our environment, reducing waste, greening the energy mix, alleviating poverty and improving young people's health.
Alongside those themes we consider charities personally supported by Altor Wealth clients and staff, by request. Most of our smaller grants begin that way.
The 50/50 rule
Give half away. Invest the other half.
Each year we aim to give half our income away and invest the other half. The invested half is held in the EQ Positive Impact All Equity fund and is not touched.
The endowment is on track to reach £1m before the current partners retire. At that size it should support grants of £20,000-£30,000 a year indefinitely, without any further income from the firm. That is the whole point: the giving should carry on long after the income that started it has stopped.
In 2025 we gave away less than our 50% target and ended the year holding £221,961 in cash. The trustees intend to correct this by making more grants in 2026.
Half given away
50%
Granted to UK registered charities in the year it is received, or as soon after as a good use is found.
Half invested
50%
Added to a permanent endowment in a positive impact fund, so that it does good while it grows.

How we keep costs low
£1,826 to run in 2025 - 0.7% of income
01
No staff, no salaries
The trustees are unpaid and the Foundation employs nobody. Administration is done by the partners of Altor Wealth in their own time.
02
Shared premises and systems
Altor Wealth Management provides the office, the registered address, the investment oversight and the bookkeeping at no charge to the charity.
03
A small number of considered grants
We make a handful of grants a year rather than running an open application round, so the cost of assessing them stays proportionate.
04
Examined, not audited
At our size the Charity Commission requires an independent examination rather than a full audit. Ours is carried out by Lefevres Chartered Accountants.
Know a charity we should look at?
Most of our smaller grants start as a suggestion from a client or member of staff at Altor Wealth.
